Benjamin Franklin, born in
1706, was a founding father of the United States. He was known as a leading
author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, musician,
inventor, satirist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. He is also
credited for his discoveries regarding theory and electricity. He is the
inventor of the lightening rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, a carriage
odometer, and the glass armonica. Some of his greatest achievements include
forming the first public lending library in America and the first fire
department in Pennsylvania.
